DRUM LESSONS
Looking for drum lessons in Melbourne? Jeremy offers personalised drum lessons for children, teenagers and adults from private teaching studios in Hawthorn and Glen Iris, as well as online. Whether you're picking up the sticks for the first time, returning to drumming after a break, or looking to further develop your technique and musical understanding, lessons are tailored to your interests, goals and experience.
With over 12 years' experience as a private music teacher and a Bachelor of Contemporary Music from the Victorian College of the Arts, Jeremy brings a calm, structured and encouraging approach to every lesson. Alongside his private teaching, he works in secondary school settings, running individual and group lessons and ensembles. With over 20 years' experience as a professional performing and recording drummer, he brings genuine musical experience into every lesson.
Students build strong technical and musical foundations while exploring the aspects of drumming that interest them most. Lessons can include groove, timing, coordination, technique, reading notation, music theory, improvisation, dynamics, stylistic development, composition, aural skills and ensemble playing. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, Jeremy adapts lessons to suit each student's learning style and musical goals.
Whether your goal is to play in bands, prepare for performances, school music or exams, develop your musicianship, or simply enjoy drumming as a lifelong hobby, lessons are designed to build confidence, creativity and a genuine enjoyment of music.

-
Definitely! I regularly teach complete beginners on drums, guitar and music theory. Lessons focus on building strong foundations, confidence and enjoyment from the very start.

Drum students are encouraged to have access to a basic practice setup at home. Guitar students will need their own instrument. I’m happy to advise on suitable beginner equipment.

For primary school–aged students, I usually recommend 30-minute lessons, or 45 minutes for students with particularly good focus.
For secondary students and adults, 45 or 60 minutes both work well. In 45 minutes we can get plenty done, while 60 minutes gives us more space to go deeper if you have the time. -
Student safety and wellbeing are very important to me. I hold a current Working With Children Check and complete ongoing professional development in child safety standards as part of my work within a Victorian government school setting.
In addition to my work as a music educator, I am also a qualified counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), and I work within clear ethical, professional and safety guidelines. Lessons are conducted in a respectful, supportive and age-appropriate manner at all times.
