MUSIC LESSONS

Jeremy has over 12 years’ experience as a private music teacher and holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Music from the Victorian College of the Arts. He teaches students of all ages and levels, with lessons tailored to each student’s musical interests, goals, and stage of development.

Alongside his private teaching, Jeremy works in secondary school settings, teaching individual and group lessons and running ensembles. As an active performer and working musician, he brings real-world musical experience into lessons, helping students connect technique, theory, and musical feel in a practical and engaging way.

His teaching style is relaxed, encouraging, and structured, with a strong focus on groove, timing, musicality, and building confidence on the instrument. For beginners, lessons are supportive and motivating, while for older students and more advanced players, lessons can go deeper into reading and notation, music theory, improvisation, tone, dynamics, composition, aural skills, and ensemble playing.

Lessons are flexible and shaped around what each student wants to develop as a musician, whether that’s playing in bands, refining technique, or simply enjoying making music.

  • Definitely! I regularly teach complete beginners on drums, guitar and music theory. Lessons focus on building strong foundations, confidence and enjoyment from the very start.

  • Drum students are encouraged to have access to a basic practice setup at home. Guitar students will need their own instrument. I’m happy to advise on suitable beginner equipment.

  • For primary school–aged students, I usually recommend 30-minute lessons, or 45 minutes for students with particularly good focus.
For secondary students and adults, 45 or 60 minutes both work well. In 45 minutes we can get plenty done, while 60 minutes gives us more space to go deeper if you have the time.

  • Student safety and wellbeing are very important to me. I hold a current Working With Children Check and complete ongoing professional development in child safety standards as part of my work within a Victorian government school setting.

In addition to my work as a music educator, I am also a qualified counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), and I work within clear ethical, professional and safety guidelines. TESTIMONIALS

“As a mature aged student who had no prior drumming experience, I was keen to find a patient and intuitive teacher who would not only build my technique, but also my confidence to feel at home at the drums. Jeremy’s personalised approach accommodates for my broader musical inquisitiveness, incorporating these interests into our lessons. Highly recommended!” - Jenna D

“I’ve been learning the guitar with Jeremy for a year and a half. He is a great teacher who explains things really easily and clearly. He also makes it fun. I really like the way I can make my own song suggestions and he’ll work out the music and teach me to play the songs that I want to learn. I would definitely recommend him!” - Eva T

“I’ve been learning drums with Jeremy for two years as an adult beginner, and his teaching is both effective and enjoyable.
